VMware Fusion

Today, I installed VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Pro. It took 3 tries though. Here are the settings for the third attempt that installed successfully:

1. Changed my user account on Mac to administrator.
2. Used the Advanced options to Allocate 20 GB all at once.
3. Selected the Read & Write option to access files by both Mac and Windows.

Note: successful installs should have no error messages. If you get error messages, just remove the virtual machine by default in /Documents/ and start over.

Before you start this process though, download the XP version of Norton Security install program and save it to your Mac desktop. Then, when you start the Fusion - XP installation process, disconnect the Ethernet and turn off Airport. This way no viruses can access your machine until you install the Virus Detector and Firewall systems.

After this is installed, reconnect Ethernet or Airport and download all XP updates.

Then after restarting, install XP apps as needed (and then install the updates for those apps).

Time frame:
Successful install of XP, Norton, and all updates - 1 hr.
