Where is the Union!?
Hey everyone, this is Eric and it’s Thursday again!
Today is my 26th day here in Austin (and today is Mexico’s Independence Day!). I feel like such a longhorn now. It’s been just about a month since I arrived at UT and I finally feel like a real student! I can walk down the streets of campus and no one can tell that I am a freshman anymore (at least I think not). Although this Saturday, I was practically the only one on campus not wearing burnt orange. It was a home game, and apparently it’s law around here to wear a burnt orange anything on game days. I’d worn a burnt orange t-shirt the game before that and almost no one had worn orange that day (maybe cause it wasn’t a home game..)! Oh and I was apparently the only one not to go to the game last Saturday, I went to the gym instead. I figured everyone would be too busy watching the game, and the gym would be deserted. I was right! It was a nice workout, there’s so much to do in Gregory gym. I also played racquetball with some friends, in hopes that it would be somehow like tennis. It was soo different! There are walls everywhere, and the ball bounces like crazy in every direction. It was terrifying, but still fun.
On weekends, the buffet where I eat almost my every meal is closed, so I decided to venture and eat at the Union with a friend. As I made my way to the Union, I got just a little lost. I sat at the corner of Guadalupe and 24th, pulled out my map and looked for the Union. I felt like such a freshman again when I found that the Union was right behind me…It’s okay though, because it’s so nice inside, and they have so many fast food places in there.
This week was not the best week I’ve had here in Austin. I miss my huge bed back at home. I remember falling asleep at night and waking up in the morning having turned 180 degrees to have my feet where my head used to be. Good times. Now I must sleep in a twin size bed, I think that was what my bed used to be back in 5th grade. It’s terrible; sometimes I wake up with back-aches, because I can’t move at all without the fear of falling off. Hopefully I’ll get used to it soon, cause it’s no fun. Studying wasn’t all that fun either, with the back pain and all. One of my professors sometimes puts up excerpts for books for us to read, but sometimes they’re scanned sideways. I have to turn my head or the laptop in order to read it, it’s not easy.
The next couple of days were just the same, aside from my roommate waiting the new Halo game to come out, and him playing it from dawn to dusk. I don’t blame him though, I will probably do the same when the new Zelda games comes out. Anyway, that’s all for this time. Until next Thursday!
