The CSSB has access to state-of-the art research facilities at UT Austin, including:
Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)
The Texas Advanced Computing Center provides powerful computing, visualization, and storage systems to UT Austin researchers, including one of the largest computing systems in the world for open science: Stampede.
At nearly 10 petaflops, the Stampede computer cluster supplies >100,000 processing cores and >200 TB of memory. Stampede also comes with 6,880 highly parallel Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors, which add more than 7 additional petaflops of performance, making Stampede the largest installation of these Intel coprocessors (as well as the largest Dell public production cluster) deployed to date.
Apart from Stampede, TACC offers a Dell Linux Cluster containing 22,656 cores within 1,888 Dell PowerEdge M610 compute blade servers, 302 teraflops of peak performance, 44.3 terabytes of total memory, and 1.2 petabytes of raw disk space. These resources are partnered with the 2900 sq ft Advanced Scientific Visualization Laboratory in the ACES building across the street from the CSSB. ASVL allows for the visualization of biological data, providing a 360 degree, wrap-around projection system for 3D stereo viewing, an editing suite, and the help of expert staff.
Genome Sequencing and Analysis Facility (GSAF)
Supported by the CSSB and the Texas Institute for Drug & Diagnostic Development, the Genomic Sequencing and Analysis Facility performs next-generation sequencing and microarray studies for UT researchers from any department and for external research entities. The facility hosts the Life Technologies SOLiD 4 and Roche 454 FLX next-generation sequencers, and has the capability to process Nimblegen, Agilent, and internally-created DNA microarrays for analysis of both DNA and RNA molecular populations by hybridization and one- or two-color fluorescent scanning.
