The National Safety Council is urging motorists to stop using cell phones and text messaging devices while behind the wheel of a car.

“Studies show that driving while talking on a cell phone is extremely dangerous and puts drivers at a four times greater risk of a crash,” said Janet Froetscher, president and CEO of the NSC. “Driving drunk is also dangerous and against the law. When our friends have been drinking, we take the car keys away. It’s time to take the cell phone away.” from the article National Safety Council Calls for Nationwide Ban on Cell Phone Use While Driving

A fact sheet, data resources, and other information concerning cell phone use while driving are available on the NSC website.

A recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive surveying 2,681 U.S. adults found that a majority of drivers who own cell phones, use them while driving even though they believe it is dangerous.
