Congratulations to Dr. Lee, my faculty advisor, mentor, and employer during my four+ years at UT Austin. This award is well-deserved and appropriate for this consummate "engineer's engineer"!

Laurel Roennau was one of those rare, wonderful, brilliant, generous people who has blessed my life with her wisdom and genius. There are few today who can walk in the shoes of this great lady who cared more about our city and our future than all of the hack politicians that are seated on the City Council today. Without Laurel, our beaches and public lands would be covered with hotels and office buildings, despite what you may read or hear from our “progressive” local politicians. She was one of those lovable unique misfits who was willing to give us the courage, energy and love to face a governmental adversary, and win, against all odds, with the truth.
Thank you Laurel for all you have given to me and to this City…. and to all of the people of Santa Monica….when you are enjoying your parks and beaches remember Laurel Roennau...she remembered you.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, glorify, or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them! Because they change things. They push the human race forward and while some may see them as crazy ones, we see genius… because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do!”

God bless you Laurel…you made my world a better place.
Thank You!
With all my love and a big kiss.

Rest in Peace
