Austin’s bicycle infrastructure is to be enhanced with shared lane markings or sharrows, which provide visual cues that cars need to share a lane with bicycles. The sharrows will be placed on Guadalupe and Lavaca between 20th and Cesar Chavez, and E. 51st between IH 35 and Airport Boulevard. Read full story at Austin On Two Wheels.
The Shared Lane Markings designate areas where bicycles and motor vehicles have little room to share one lane and there is insufficient room for striping a bicycle lane. Shared lane markings are also frequently used adjacent to parked vehicles. [Sharrows] identify sites where bicycles and motor vehicles compete for the same space.
