Fuel economy higher, thanks to Cash for Clunkers (from PHYorg.com)

According to a University of Michigan stud, the average fuel economy of all new vehicles purchased in the United States in July and August improved about 3 percent. The improved figures are attributed to the “Cash for Clunkers” initiative.

‘Cash for Clunkers’ not likely to reduce pollution

The U.S. Government’s automobile trade-in program, CARS (Car Allowance Rebate System), more commonly referred to as ‘Cash for Clunkers,’ may boost the economy and the auto industry, but will not substantially reduce pollution.
