The College Women’s Political Caucus (CWPC) is in its earliest stages, so now is your chance to help shape this national organization! CWPC will be a campus affiliate of the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC), which exists to help elect pro-choice women candidates to political office on the city, state, and national level.
The goals and possible projects of CWPC include, but are not limited to:
Volunteering on political campaigns for local women political candidates.
Putting on and participating in trainings on a variety of topics related to political leadership and political campaigns.
Mentoring under-served middle & high school girls to help develop their leadership abilities.
Working to get the ERA ratified.
Networking with women political leaders.
Finally, the president of NWPC also sees the CWPC as THE place to start identifying, and training future political leaders. If you see yourself as a future politician, press secretary, communications director, or campaign manager (or other West Wing character of your choice…), this is the place to start garnering experience, connections, and support!
If you are interested in being an officer in CWPC, please email Harmony Eichsteadt at harmonyeverafter@gmail.com.

The Generic Ensemble Company Presents:
Una Corda (A Ritual)
Written and Performed by kt shorb
Directed by Yvan Greenberg
Four Performances Only, September 10–12
The Blue Theatre
kt shorb will perform the world premiere of Una Corda on Friday September 10 at 8pm, Saturday September 11 at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday September 12 at 2pm. All shows will take place at The Blue Theatre (916 Springdale Road, Austin, TX 78702), presented by The Generic Ensemble Company.
Una Corda is a ritual meditation on the spiritual and emotional effects of cancer and the experience of witnessing the destruction and loss caused by the disease. This solo show is an original rite, using rigorous physicality and stream-of-consciousness text based on shorb’s experience nursing three women undergoing cancer treatment. Blurring the line between ceremony, happening, and autobiography, Una Corda asks the question: How do we not lose sight of ourselves when surrounded by loss itself?
Created by performer/writer kt shorb in collaboration with director Yvan Greenberg, Una Corda uses Greenberg’s signature layering of choreography, text, imitation and indeterminacy alongside shorb’s explorations of intimacy, failure, and frenetic action to create visceral movements, objects, and atmospheres. Drawing influences from Noh theatre, Bugaku, and Japanese Buddhist ceremonies, the ritual takes place in the liminal spaces between life and death, presence and oblivion, redemption and loss.
The piece also includes scenic design by Sarah Sage, costuming by Irene Roderick and poetry by Kimberly Alidio.

The fifth annual Queer Texas Conference will be held October 15 and 16, 2010 at the University of Texas at Austin in the School of Social Work. This conference will bring together high school and college students, as well as community members, from across the state to network, learn and build community.
If you have ideas, interests, concerns, etc. that you’d like to see addressed at this conference PLEASE tell us. You can contact the QSA directly at texasqsa@gmail.com.
For this conference, we’ve developed three tracks (themes that the workshops and presentations will be centered around). The three tracks for this year are:
1. The Possibility Track – this track of workshops and panels will be geared toward students who are just exploring their sexual orientation or building their community. Potential workshop topics include: Coming Out workshops, Safer Sex workshops, Resources for LGBT Students at UT, etc.
2. The Influence Track – this track will focus on queer studies. Papers and presentations on various facets of queers studies will be presented here.
3. The Impact Track – this track will focus on activism within and for the LGBT community. These workshops/panels will frame queer liberation work in a social justice/anti-oppression context.
If you are interested in presenting a workshop, please fill out the attached interest form and email it to texasqsa@gmail.com with the subject: QTC Workshops. Or, go to http://qpocatexas.com/qsa/proposal.html and fill out form online. Due date: 9/3/10. We hope to have announcements about which proposals have been accepted by 9/20/2010.
