On Feb. 26 the Student Volunteer Board, a student organization housed within the Volunteer and Learning Center, successfully put on the 12th annual “Project,” the largest student-run single day of service at The University of Texas at Austin. Lanier High School and several Rundberg area neighborhoods played host to Project 2011, in which over 1,300 students came out to paint schools, cleanup roads, restore parks, and make environmentally-friendly home repairs. Sites included Gus Garcia Recreation Center, where volunteers planted trees, and Lanier High School, where they organized an interactive community fair.

With the help of The North Austin Neighborhood Association, Austin Amateur Radio Club, and corporate and non-profit partners such as The Home Depot, University Federal Credit Union, Keep Austin Beautiful and 1House at a time, Project 2011 made a big difference! Congrats to the Project Steering Committee and the VSLC staff for pulling it off.
