Are you a food lover?

Are you interested in how food gets from the farm to the table?

Do you revel in Texas culture?

Are you a twitter superstar who loves helping to make big events happen?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, you should apply to be a Foodways Texas Intern!

Foodways Texas is an organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the diverse food cultures of Texas. We are looking for undergraduate interns to help us plan and prepare for our upcoming Symposium (March 23-25 in Austin), and one intern to work on social media and the Foodways Texas website through and beyond the Symposium. Interns will work closely with the Director and Program Assistant of

Foodways Texas, and have the opportunity to interact with some of the best-known and most innovative personalities in food in Austin and throughout Texas.

We anticipate needing interns to work 3-7 hours per week until the two weeks leading up to the Symposium, when they should plan to work more, and to work throughout the Symposium weekend. We have a particular need for individuals who have twitter experience and some basic skills working with Excel or other spreadsheet management and word processing programs (or are willing to self-teach). We also are looking for one intern who has social media and website editing experience to continue helping to maintain the Foodways Texas web presence after the Symposium.

While Foodways Texas is affiliated with both UT’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and the Department of American Studies, we are happy to have interns from any university department.

Benefits for interns include:

  • Getting to eat delicious foods and attend many exciting events during the Foodways Texas Symposium
  • Opportunities to interact with chefs, farmers and other food producers, food writers, journalists, and food and agriculture scholars
  • Resume-worthy experience in event planning and management, and social media
  • Mentorship from Foodways Texas staff
  • Did we mention tasty food?
