Week #12

November 17, 2009

Darwin wasn’t too bad, though I completely forgot about the reading assignment =( Wondering what the next project will be and hoping it’s not too time consuming - it’s starting to get busy again with the end of the semester creeping up.

The stuff we’re learning in class is new to me - I never realized that C++’s syntax for marking something abstract was so different from Java’s. Ah well, more stuff to prep on before the next quiz.

Project 7: Darwin

November 15, 2009

Predicted hours: 8

Actual hours: 8

Week 11

November 9, 2009

Darwin seems like an easier version of the critters program we did in CS315H. Doesn’t seem like it’s very hard, so I’m going to try to get it done ASAP with Benry in anticipation for the upcoming tests I have next week. Beating rover should be pretty easy - I think I have my code from freshman year lying around somewhere on my hard drive…

Week 10

November 2, 2009

Sudoku was fairly straightforward with the exception of a couple of off-by-one errors that took us a bit of time to fix. Kind of a boring way to spend a Halloween, though =X

Looking forward to exploring the Boost library in class - it’s one of those things I’ve meant to dig around a bit in, but never found the time to.

Project 6: Sudoku

November 1, 2009

Predicted Number of Hours: 5

Actual Number: 5

Week 9

October 26, 2009

Glad to see I did well on this test! I liked it more than the first one, but I suppose I’m a bit biased there. The project this week doesn’t seem terribad either - and I’ll be working on it with Ting, so it shouldn’t take too long, especially with all the resources he’s linked on the project page.

Week 7

October 18, 2009

The test wasn’t too bad, and I’m happy I chose to write the Iterator types on my note sheet =) The allocator project took an hour or so longer than expected, but mostly because we were working in the wee hours of the night Saturday. Fairly interesting project, and I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.

Project 5: Allocator

October 18, 2009

Expected Time: 4 hours

Actual Time: 5 hours

Week 7

October 11, 2009

Midterms coming up - this week was pretty much spent dreading the next week. The allocator project doesn’t seem too bad, and I think I’ll try to work with Sam today to get it out of the way. With only 4 projects left, I can start partnering up with people I know, just to be safe =) (Though my previous partners have all been excellent anyways.)

CS371p Week 6

October 3, 2009

The project this week was really straightforward, but a good intro to the power of vectors I suppose. Next week’s project seems far more interesting - an allocator? Should be fun.

Felt the reading was pretty interesting - highlighted a few differences between c++ and java’s overloading that I don’t think I ever noticed. Oh, and felt it was pretty amusing we skipped 10 chapters of the book or so.
