DiverseArts has a full schedule for the month of November. East Austin Studio Tour will take place from November 14th to the 22nd. Kenny Dorham’s Backyard venue space has been employed to host an artist market on East 11th St. on both weekends of E.A.S.T. This provides prospects for artist in the community, who otherwise would not be included in the tour, to display and potentially sell work.  At East 5th and Comal the New East Arts Gallery will hold openings for two exhibitions. I hang the paintings of Amy Poynt this coming Monday and just twelve days later the paintings and glass murals of David Zvanut will be put on display until early December. I am responsible for generating three separate media releases and flyers to go out to our contacts for each event. With a new show approaching another must come down. New works bring fresh life to the walls of the gallery.

In addition to programming duties I have made it my top priority to initiate the recruitment of new interns for the Spring semester. After the internship fair last week there are roughly seventy resumes to further investigate. I am responsible for keeping up with all communications related to prospective internships. We have eight applications on file to date. I am hopeful that next season DiverseArts will have a fully functioning team of interns. The non-profit organization significantly benefits from a full staff in which each member is assigned a designated area of production. Harold and myself will be holding an informal internship information session at the gallery on Wednesday of this week. This creates an opportunity for students to become better acquainted with our organization and find the best fit for their expertise and interest. DiverseArts looks to the future with great anticipation.

This week at CAG I am filming an EPK. An EPK stands for electronic press kit, which is basically a resume for artists, or a preview for a movie. They are normally used when an upcoming artist it promoting their album when it is about to be released. What it entales is a biography, tour dates, photos, press releases, even a look into the songs that are going to be on the upcoming album. This week I am getting alot of stuff together to film this. I have an advertising major from the University of Texas helping me with this project. Ramy wanted me to work with the resources around me and network and so I found him to help me. We are filming on wednesday which should be so fun. This is really opening my eyes to understand that its not just about the music it takes alot of other elements to make this whole thing happen. I am defnitely learning the right skills to learn how this industry works.

Today I went to visit Lana Butler at The Austin Museum of Art located on South Congress Ave. It is a large building in a hip downtown area. Lana is the first person you see when you walk through the front doors. She would be considered the receptionist. The person that directs calls, greets the people and gives them the background of the museum. The museum is clean and airy. The people that work there are friendly, approachable and knowledgable about the art world. I enjoy this museum because the exhibits are constantly changing which allows the viewer to become familiar with different artists and their works of art. The also show many types of media which expands the minds of the visitors. Lana seems to enjoy her job and is learning alot from her sponsors. I witnessed her interacting with different people that she works with . The job appears to be low key yet educational. Unfortunatly they were in the middle of an installation so I was unable to see an exhibit. I did enjoy their lovely gift shop where I purchased an inspiring book of sculpture. All and all it was a great visit and I got to meet some wonderful people that may be able to help me in my near future.
