Jenna is studying Clinical Psychology and, along with Dr. James Pennebaker, has conducted fascinating research with soldiers at Ft. Hood. Below, she discusses what she has learned about the numerous difficulties these soldiers face when they return home from war.
The Fort Hood community has suffered well-publicized losses in the recent shooting that left thirteen people dead. What is perhaps less obvious is that most members of that community live with unpublicized life-altering losses, both threatened and actual, every day. [Read more →]

The Department of Biomedical Engineering just received a grant from the National Cancer Institute to establish a center to conduct innovative cancer research. Graduate student Hayley Gillespie is giving a talk tomorrow at the Brackenridge Field Laboratory about the endangered Barton Springs Salamander. There will be free jazz music and hot chocolate on the Union Patio on Thursday evening…

Q: First of all, you are a graduate student in Media Studies, correct? Are you specializing in anything, and how far along are you in your program?
A: Yes, I am a first-year/first-semester MA student in the media studies program in the RTF department. My specialization or area of concentration is copyright and intellectual property. I’m most interested in learning more about the remix culture [of music]: i.e. behaviors, policy, etc.

Put on your dancin’ shoes and get ready… the Austin City Limits Music Festival is back.
One of our city’s biggest and most-anticipated yearly events, ACL will be rocking Zilker Park this weekend (October 2-4). Some of this year’s headliners include Kings of Leon, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dave Matthews Band, Thievery Corporation and John Legend, but there is something for everyone with 100-plus acts lined up for the Festival.
