Dual Careers@UT
We strongly encourage couples to apply for positions at UT. The sooner we know about a partner, the sooner we can act. The University has two programs supporting dual career hiring for faculty:
Academic Dual Careers. The search committee or chair of the department is the first point of contact for academic dual career assistance. The chair consults with the dean of the school/college who initiates the process with the provost and the receiving dean. Funding for the dual hire comes 1/3 from the initiating College/School, 1/3 from the receiving College/School, and 1/3 from the Provost. The second faculty member goes through a full review by the potential receiving unit. The full review ensures a welcoming environment for both faculty members. The program has enjoyed many years of success with excellent communication and collaboration among deans.
Non-Academic Dual Careers. Our newest program for non-academic dual careers began Spring 09 as a result of recommendations from the Gender Equity Task Force. The Provost’s Office contracts with Austin “headhunters” to assist with placement of nonacademic partners. Austin is a vibrant community with many employment opportunities. The hiring procedure is similar to the academic dual career process: The search committee or chair consults with the dean who initiates the process with the Provost. The Provost’s office assigns an appropriate employment consultant who contacts the candidate.
