NO SG Meeting on Nov. 24

There will be no Student Goverment general meeting  on Tues., Nov. 24, in order for members go home for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The last meeting of the fall semester will be Tues., Dec. 1 at 7pm in the Glenn Maloney Room (SSB G1.310).

Upcoming SG Meeting at the Blanton

The regular Student Government meeting scheduled for November 10 will be held in the Blanton Museum of Art. The mobile meeting will begin at 6:00pm and will include a discussion of arts and politics and an exhibit, with the SG meeting following the discussion.



Recap: Week of October 13-20, 2009

The 2010-2011 Student Regent Application is now available on the SG website.  The Governor of Texas appoints one student from The University of Texas System to serve as a nonvoting member of The University of Texas System Board of Regents. 

 

On October 13th, SG had their first “Mix at 6.”  It was a time for any students who wanted to learn more about student government and get more involved to mingle with the Executive Board, Representatives, and Agency Directors.  SG wants to thank the Co-Directors of Membership Coordination for all of their hard work in planning the event.

 

October 15th and 16th the on and Off Housing Hosted Block Parties that included free food and trivia with the UTPD.  SG wants to thank the on and Off Housing Agency Co-Directors for their diligent work during these events. 

 

Legislative Update: 

Ø  AB 5 and AR 18 Approved: Last week, AB 5 and AR 18 were passed by the SG Assembly and then signed by President O’Rourke.

§  AB 5: Changes to Internal Rules—External Affairs. Author: The External Affairs Committee

o   Passed by the Assembly with Unanimous Consent

§  AR 18: In Support of the City of Austin Divesting from the Fayette Power Project. Authors: University-wide Representative Melessa Rodriguez (melessardz@gmail.com), Liberal Arts Representative Andy Jones (ajones2010@gmail.com), and Campus Environmental Center Director Rachel Aitkens (raitkens724@mail.utexas.edu).

·         Passed by the Assembly with a Majority Voice Vote

10/20 SG Meeting CANCELLED

The Student Government meeting for this week, usually scheduled for 7pm in the Glenn Maloney Room (G1.310), will be cancelled in order for Student Government members to participate in Campus Fusion’s Town Hall Meeting.

The Campus Fusion Town Hall Meeting will take place Tues., Oct. 20 from 7:00-9:30pm in the San Jacinto Conference Center Multipurpose Room.

Safety Week Recap: October 5-8, 2009

Safety Week was the week of Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 8, 2009.  During the week, SG teamed up with other campus entities to put on various Safety Week events.  The events included a Burnhouse and Fire Safety explanation, StarCart and Shattered Dreams production, National Night Out, Cop Day, dinner with the Chiefs and a Health and Wellness production.   The events were successful and effective in promoting safety to the UT campus.  SG wants to thank Sarah Watson, SG Safety Agency Director, for all of her hard work during the week.



Student Government Welcome Week and 1st Meeting

Student Government has been all over campus since the first day of school, tabling and helping to create a welcoming atmosphere for first-year students.

Visit the SG table in the next few days from 11am-2pm in the West Mall and Jester. We are here to point you in the right direction, answer questions, and help get you acquainted with the UT campus.

On Tuesday, September 1 SG will host an Agency Fair and Welcome Back Meeting at the Jester Spanish Oaks Terrace beginning at 6:00pm. Come meet Student Government members and enjoy free t-shirts and catered BBQ.
