Pablo has made quite the impact at Texas Performing Arts. He’s the Marketing Student Assistant, as well as the Director of Hook ‘em Arts, Texas Performing Arts’ official student organization. Pablo first got involved with Hook ‘em Arts in the fall of 2008 when he started at UT as a freshman, and he wanted to work here ever since. Pablo will graduate in 2012 with a degree in Radio, Television & Film: Media Studies and Digital Media, and he is hoping to move to New York City. His ideal job would be to work in marketing for Broadway shows.

Working in the Marketing department here has certainly helped him work towards that goal. He has learned how to reach out to as many people as possible and target certain audiences who would be interested in a particular performance. Pablo says that working here has confirmed his desire to pursue a career in marketing.

Pablo’s day-to-day duties change quite a bit, but he contacts organizations and companies around town in hopes to collaborate with them to promote certain shows. He is also in charge of working with a poster distributer to ensure that our posters and flyers are seen around Austin. He is also in charge of any guerilla marketing on campus. Here is an example from this past season:

As far as the most challenging part of his job, Pablo said that he had to overcome his fear of cold calling people. He has now become pretty used to it, especially since he has started working relationships with many of these people. He even got a free pizza out of one time! Pablo really likes that he is able to gain experience in the field in which he wants to work when he graduates, and he enjoys the friendly and welcoming staff at Texas Performing Arts. He also says that walking on the Bass stage and looking out at the almost 3,000 seats never gets old!

Aside from working here and being Director of Hook ‘em Arts, Pablo is also a Resident’s Assistant in Jester East on the 10th floor (The Penthouse), and he is an Orientation Advisor. When he isn’t doing any of the above, he enjoys paying violin, singing, catching up on his favorite TV shows (Glee & Modern Family), and getting ready for the Undie Run on May 6th – I’ll let you read about yourself – http://undierun.com/wordpress/cities/austin/.
