Sonia has been with us for three years, and we are so lucky to have her! At the beginning of her freshman year she found out about jobs at Texas Performing Arts through a posting on HireALonghorn.org. Now in her third year at the University of Texas, Sonia is working on her Radio-Television-Film degree with minors in Business and Spanish. In addition to all of that schoolwork, Sonia has worked in the Texas Performing Arts Development Office through it all.

Sonia is grateful for her opportunity to work here because she says it has improved her communication skills and has boosted her confidence in regards to working in an office. With aspirations to become a film editor, Sonia is thankful for her supervisors that allow her to take on projects that fit her interests.

This semester she’ll be working on a student testimonial video. Sonia will work with two other student employees and Hook ‘em Arts members to interview people as they leave performances. The idea is to stimulate discussion about $10 student tickets and the importance of these discounted tickets in a student’s education. The end product should be a video that educates the public on the Student Ticket Fund and encourage donors and patrons to contribute. (Keep your eyes peeled for sneak peaks throughout the semester!)

One of Sonia’s favorite parts of the job is interacting with the staff. She enjoys the people that work here and the supportive environment by which she is surrounded. Recently Sonia got an internship at Twitchy Dolphin Flix after speaking with Natalie Wilemon, a Texas Performing Arts staff member who will be acting in one of their upcoming films!

When asked about any last words, Sonia replied, “What we do in life echoes for eternity.” That’s her favorite quote; it’s from Gladiator.

Sonia is truly one of the most talented and dedicated people I have ever met. She will do well, no matter what she chooses to do. With her many good qualities, she is fit for anything.
