AT&T picks up Longhorn Network
Today, AT&T announced that it will carry the Longhorn Network.
I’m thrilled that the Longhorn Network is now more widely available to the UT family. The high-quality programs – showcasing both athletics and the life of the greater university – will give fans and the general public an exciting new window on UT. AT&T has been a long-standing friend of the University in many ways, and we’re delighted that they will be joining our distribution network. Over the past year, we kept our focus on the long term and trusted our great partners at ESPN. Now we can begin to realize the full potential of this powerful new communication channel.
I also want to thank all the providers who have been carrying the Longhorn Network throughout the past year, including Verizon FiOS TV, Grande Communications, Consolidated Communications, En-Touch Systems, E-Tex Communications, Bay City Cablevision, Mid-Coast Cablevision, and Texas Mid-Gulf Cablevision.
While we realize this won’t help all fans immediately, it is a big breakthrough that will encourage other major distributors to carry the network.
Finally, let’s wish the Horns a great season opener against Wyoming tomorrow night.
Hook ’em Horns!

This is not a “break through” at all. Unfortunately I live outside Texas and LHN is not carried on Direct TV or Comcast. I have complained to both carriers and to ESPN, but the bottom line is that LHN brought a lot of money to UT, but left several thousand fans in the dark. I went from being able to watch the game almost every weekend, to barely being able to watch the games at all this season and I know thousands of other Longhorn fans are in the same boat. When will EVERYONE have access to LHN?
Great Job on landing the Contract with ESPN ! $20M
Now, if you could meet with these Cable Providers and Dish Providers at the Round Table and Close on a 1-3 year deals to be Mutually Reviewed and Revised. Instead of trying to Forecast 10 Year- Long-Term deals. I understand Nobody wants to be on the Short-End, its $Business. Had a Season to get these Contracts Done, Hopefully some are in the works !
Again, I pray we can Close Some of these deals for the benefit of our Fans and Alumni !!!

I think you should check the accuracy of this report. My sons who reside in Austin have ATT uVerse Family considered next level up from basic. I just went to the ATT uVerse site and reviewed what channels are offered. LHN Channel 609 is NOT part of the Basic or Family. The site indicates you must have a premium package to have the LHN.
Every week that I can not watch a game I will voice my opinion. I hate the fact I can’t watch our football games. Not even in a bar in Austin, that’s stupid! Someone really missed this up for your fans. We all can’t make to the game, we all don’t have access to uverse. I listened to the game online last week. I refuse to this week, I will check on my phone for updates, and that’s it. Thank you SportsTap! I was at Sam’s yesterday, they had some really cool Longhorn stuff. Normally with game day approaching, I would of been excited and bought the stuff, then I said, why? So I didn’t. Didn’t even wear my Longhorn shirt to work on Friday. Totally ticked off with this mess. I can watch A&M football, and not the Longhorns, something is definitely wrong with that picture. Please don’t email me back to tell me I will be able to see some games on ESPN, don’t care. I love watching them at home.
Hope you lose all donations for taking away UT football.
This is great news for many of my fellow Texas Ex friends.
For those of us who only have access to DirecTV and Dish, we are sincerely disappointed in you for not being able to influence ESPN to ensure all Longhorn fans have access to OUR network.
So, some of us have been blessed with the ability to make significant donations to THE UNIVERSITY and our beloved alma mater. My family all are Texas Exes and bleed burnt orange (my daughter was also a UT Cheerleader). However, many of my TX EX friends have agreed that we will all withhold all future donations to UT until they find a way to correct this serious blunder in negotiating Longhorn Network coverage with the networks.
The challenge is yours, and the loss of faith and $$ toward UT is growing.
We love our teams…..help us see them succeed.

Realize that UT graduates live all over the US (and the world), not just in Texas, and we want to see the games too!!
As another alum now living outside Texas, I too wish ESPN would get it done with Dish Network (what I have), DirecTV, Comcast, etc. I’m willing to pay a little extra as in a premium channel. I know with change comes hiccups, but I did not expect it to take this long to get traction. I just hope UT Athletics is applying as much pressure as possible to get ESPN to bend some more in the negotiations as well as “buddy up” to the providers and encourage them to work with ESPN. It will take all sides and angles to avoid the continued escalation of unhappy Longhorn fans. Thanks for reading.
I am so tired of calling TWC (1 yr.) and hearing the same reply-”We are still in talks with LHN, but nothing has been resolved.” I use to have Bevo-D, but even that is gone.
Frustrated in Arlington, Tx. Class of 1974.
P.S. I am a big follower of the women’s volleyball program. Would LHN give us access to their games?
The Longhorn network is a bad idea for fans. I can’t watch many UT games anymore, I thought it would bother me more, but I find that I really don’t care. You’ve overplayed your hand, there are so many of us who would like to watch the games but won’t pay an arm and a leg to do so, and by the time we have the opportunity to do so, we will have I found other things to do with our time on Satudays. Gee, it’s not like UT had not already monetized the heck out of college football, you had to try to wring even more out of the casual fan. The diehards will pay(when the cable & dish companies and UT reach agreement on how divide up the loot); the rest of us will watch another game — Geaux Tigers! — or find something more interesting to do than watch UT beat some little school that wants a piece of the pie, too, and is willing to be cannon fodder. You want me to pay how much for that? No thanks.
