Entrepreneurship organizations, departments and institutions are joining forces March 5-9 to bring a series of on-campus events to The University of Texas at Austin. What? Student feedback will be used for the Know Your Line Project, a campus wide campaign to promote responsible alcohol use.
Where? Online! Students will be invited to participate in the focus group through Blackboard.
When? March 5 to 11. Over a week, students selected to participate will have an opportunity to respond to a series of questions and provide feedback about the campaign.
Next steps? Email your first and last name, UTEID, classification (i.e., sophomore), gender, and age to: ut-socialnorms@utlists.utexas.edu.
More Info? Student feedback is key to the success of the campaign. We are interested in your ideas and what you have to say! Your input is confidential and will be used to design t-shirts, posters, and Facebook ads distributed throughout campus in spring 2012. Interested students will receive further directions on how to participate in the online focus group.

The Junior Fellows Program was begun in 1959 by Harry Ransom as a means of encouraging academic excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences. At that time it was essentially an honor society to which students were elected at the end of their freshman year. Over the years, the Junior Fellows has evolved into a society of juniors and seniors from the University at large who are engaged in independent research projects under the direction of members of the faculty.
Fellows are required to attend meetings of the group, held every other week in both the fall and spring semesters. Besides project presentations, meetings feature discussions led by eminent scholars from on and off campus. Fellows have the opportunity to participate in field trips, seminars, and other academic activities. It is possible to earn academic credit for work done as a Junior Fellow, by enrolling in the appropriate conference course with the supervising professor. For example, Humanities and Plan II majors usually use their senior theses as their Junior Fellows projects. Students pursuing Special Honors in their major use the honors thesis number. Other non-honors courses are also available, for example ARH 376, E 367C, CH 475K, RTF 336. Fellows should register for the course that is approved by their advisers, fits into their degree plans, and has the right format for the chosen topic. Funds are available to assist Fellows with expenses involved in their research. There is also some money available for Fellows who can demonstrate financial need.
Applications are due Friday, March 23, 2012 for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Application Procedure
Application is open to any qualified student from any program on campus who will have completed 60 hours prior to the Fall semester. Junior Fellows normally have a GPA of at least 3.75, but outstanding students whose abilities are manifested in other waysshould not hesitate to apply. Although administered by the College of Liberal Arts, the program is open to all qualified students on campus. Many students from outside Liberal Arts are presently members.

· Bevonomics. Bevonomics teaches students how to better manage their money, credit, and debt. Perhaps you had an opportunity to read the article in Friday’s Daily Texan, “Workshop Educates Students on Facts about Leasing.” This is one of several Bevonomics workshops we are offering the campus community this spring. A full schedule of these workshops can be found on our Bevonomics website.
· Continuing and Transfer Scholarship Application. Now is also the time for students to go to the Spotlights section of OSFS’s website to apply through for 2012-13 Continuing and Transfer Scholarships. The deadline for this application is April 1, although students who wish to apply for Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarships must complete this by February 24 and students seeking Texas Exes scholarships must finish it by March 1.
· FAFSA Completion Assistance. This year’s March 15 FAFSA priority deadline fast approaching, so we are offering students opportunities to learn how to complete the FAFSA – without which we cannot consider them for need-based grants, loans, and work-study in 2012-13. These include an on-line tutorial, “7 Easy Steps to the FAFSA,” and several in-person FAFSA completion sessions during which our counselors will be available on a walk-in basis to help students fill out the FAFSA.
· TexasScholarships.org. OSFS also has an on-line service called TexasScholarships.org on which we post information about private scholarship opportunities. TexasScholarships.org also has links to reputable scholarship search engines. It is available 24/7 to all students admitted to or enrolled in the University.
· UT4Less. Budget and regulatory limitations make it impossible for every student to receive a grant or a scholarship, but our newest publication, UT4Less, continues to be available on-line to help all undergraduates learn how to make the world-class education UT offers as affordable as possible, and to limit their borrowing to only what they absolutely need.
