About the advisor

Undergraduate degree: B.A. in Psychology and French, Texas State University, 2002

Graduate degree: M.Ed. in Educational Psychology, UT Austin, 2006

I joined the College of Liberal Arts as a peer advisor in 2004 while pursuing my M.Ed.  After completing my M.Ed. I expected to go work in a middle school.  As graduation approached, I realized I did not want to leave UT.  Happily, I was able to find a job that was a great fit in the Department of American Studies as the undergraduate academic advisor.  I still get to work with students they’re just a little older than I had originally planned.  In 2011 I got the pleasure of adding Urban Studies to my portfolio.

Working with students is the best part of my job. I truly enjoy getting to know my students during their time at UT.  Since URB is a small major I get to know each of my majors, which allows me to provide the best advising possible. For this to happen I ask a lot of questions to get to know my students.  To level the playing field, here are some fun facts about me:

Favorite Sport: Football, Hook’em Horns!

Favorite food: Mexican

First job after college: receptionist

Kids: 1 human child and 2 furry, four-legged children

Celebrity crush: Leonardo Dicaprio

Favorite meal: brunch

Worst job I’ve had: temp worker for Honeybaked Ham during the Christmas rush.

Current obsession: Plants v Zombies

Favorite footwear: flip flops
