UTES 5th Grade Debate, 2012
We have just finished and produced our first formal debates in 5th grade, 2012. We held our first Loyalists v. Patriots debate on Thursday, April 5th with my homeroom group. It all started out very polite, and the students appeared uncharacteristically shy and reserved. Well, that didn’t last long. As you will see, both loyalist and patriot tempers flared just as they did in 1776.
While both of our debates have a 21st century flavor, the arguments are very similar. Our second debate, with Mrs. Zibilski’s homeroom group, took place on Tuesday, April 10th, and has a very different tone than the first. While the topics are the same, the style and strategies of the debaters are very different, and equally entertaining. THIS is one of the many reasons the teaching 5th grade is so much fun.
Please watch our Debate Movie Trailer, Debate 1, 2012, and Debate 2, 2012. You won’t be sorry!
